Love is a many splendored thing?

Do you ever have those days when you wonder what it is about you that keeps members of the opposite sex from loving you? DUH!

I have a lot of male friends. Very good friends whom I love dearly. And they are wonderful men. And sometimes I wonder...what is it about me that keeps all these relationships from moving beyond that stage. Is it them or is it me??

Coming out of a dreadfully bad marriage has made me cautious...that I know. I wonder sometimes if I emotionally stiff arm men to make sure they don't get any closer than a friend. It's easy for me to say their lack of romantic interest is because I am "full figured" or that I am no beauty prize. But I think the truth is that for so long I have held people at arm's length. I have kept myself from being emotionally available.

Emotional wounds are so much more difficult than physical ones I think. I have had to reprogram my brain, because of the things that my ex made me feel and things he said. When you spend years being assured of your lack of self worth, even by someone you know is not a good person, it has an effect on how you see yourself and on how you let others into your life. As much as I want a good and healthy relationship and a mate, there is that little voice in the back of my head that says "Look out!" and it is hard not to hear it.

The straight thinking part of me knows that I have learned so much and I know that I will be a better wife in all areas. That part knows that I desire the companionship and intimacy of a mate. That part knows that despite my looks or my weight or any of those externals, that I have a good and loving heart and that someone out there will see that first and foremost.......I just have to figure out how to evict that little voice from the back of my head once and for all.....

Amen on the reprogramming! I am now learning, when that fool with the little voice comes knocking on your door, send Jesus to answer it. He knows who He has made you in Him and will send the jerk packing (Eph 1 and 2). It's hard, but it works! :D

i know that little voice! he invades my consciousness every so often even to this day...and yes, it takes hard work to kick his sorry butt out every time.

the good news is that we don't EVER have to be perfect at it, or perfectly healed, or perfectly beautiful (at least in THIS crazy society's eye) to be blessed with love. we already are beautiful and perfect in our Father's eyes...man, what a concept.

but YOU, my friend, have SO much to offer...and i agree with flash...your hard-won lessons will indeed make somebody very, very blessed.

    keep on keepin' on, girl!

    sail the fish

You, my friend, are captivating and lovely. whether any huMAN cherishes you for the gift you are or not is immaterial because of the beauty Christ has revealed and is revealing in you as He draws you to Himself. And.... this I know.... God longs to give us the desires of our hearts. He has hardwired us for joy...waiting becomes the bugger in it all, and even in that there is beauty and peace and love.

It's true what they say about it taking 10 positive comments to overrule that ONE negative one (especially that little voice that nags at you all the time that you're just not good enough). Kick that little voice to the curb!! CJ, my dear, you are good enough, and I just like to think that God hasn't made anyone good enough for YOU yet!! :)

just wanted to thank you for posting the song Don't give up. I was looking for it - I am from US serving in South Asia-- so you helped me minister to a great need here on the field. Thank you and God bless you richly - you will make it.!

PS - I was a single mom many years, never thought anything else was a possibility. The Lord set me up with exceeding abundantly beyond all I would have asked if I had had the nerve to, and not just for my joy but for His purposes. We serve together and are almost never apart, happier than I thought any marriage could be. Set your affection firmly stayed on things above and He will do it!!! Someone on the same page with you that will lift you up in Christ and cherish you as Christ loves the church - and oh how He does. Praying for you!
